Although progress has been made in recent years in making playthings for children safer, far too many toys still remain on store shelves that pose serious risks to kids. Despite a ban of small parts in toys for children under the age of three, some toys still pose serious choking hazards. Some toys contain phthalates which are considered to be potentially harmful chemicals. Laboratory tests revealed toys containing potentially toxic lead, even though lead and other metals have been severely restricted in toys. Lead has negative health effects on almost every organ and system in the human body.
