A phobia is an irrational, intense and persistent fear of certain situations, activities, things, animals, or people. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive and unreasonable desire to avoid the feared stimulus. There are your general phobias like

claustrophobia – fear of confined spaces and arachnophobia – fear of spiders, but then there are the crazy phobias that are a scary reality for some people.

Arachibutyrophobia – The fear of peanut sticking to the roof of your mouth. People who have this phobia avoid eating peanut butter, because the sticky feeling against their palates drives them crazy.

Barophobia – The fear of gravity. Individuals coping with this phobia may fear that they will be crushed by the force of gravity were it to become too great and their view of gravity is generally distorted.

Caligynephobia – The fear of beautiful women. It can cause panic attacks and keep people apart from loved ones and business associates where they might run into the feared characteristics.

Dextrophobia – The fear of objects situated to the right side of the body. It is usually caused by an intense negative experience from your past.

Euphobia – The fear of hearing good news. It is also the inability to share in someone else's happiness or to enjoy any happiness of one's own.

Felinophobia – The fear of cats. Some symptoms are breathlessness, dizziness, excessive sweating, nausea, dry mouth, and feeling sick. This is actually a quit common phobia.

Geniophobia – The fear of chins. Persons affected become terribly anxious at the sight of a chin.

Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia – The fear of long words. Apparently, the word has deliberately been made up to induce the fear of long words...and is certainly not ironic.

Ithyphallophobia - The fear of seeing, having or even thinking about an erect penis. This unwarranted fear jeopardizes the sexual lifestyle of the men and women who suffer from it.

Judeophobia – The fear of Jews. Sufferers dread being in the company of Jews, because they either fear or dislike them.

Koniophobia – The fear of dust. This fear can simply be developed from seemingly harmless experiences.

Lachanophobia – The fear of vegetables. It is generally a childhood disease that some people never really overcome.

Mageirocophobia – The fear of cooking. It can take many forms. Some people are only afraid of cooking for large groups, while others are afraid of whipping up scrambled eggs for themselves.

Namatophobia – The fear of names. The phobia is expressed when fear is attributed to the individual bearing the name. The fear can be so profound that simply saying the name would invoke multiple symptoms of the fear.

Octophobia – The fear of the number 8. At some point in your life, there was likely an event linking the figure 8 and emotional trauma.

Peladophobia – The fear of bald people. As with any type of phobia, peladophobia may have developed from an incident of trauma at some earlier point in a person’s life.

Rhytiphobia – The fear of wrinkles. This fear applies specifically to wrinkles on the face.

Soceraphobia – The fear of parents-in-law. It is also sometimes used for times of anxiousness with any in-laws.

Taurophobia – The fear of bulls. People affected may also have a fear of cows, and probably had a negative experience with either of the animals.

Urophobia – The fear of urinating. This fear usually sticks its head out in public places, such as restrooms at a shopping mall.

Vestiphobia – The fear of clothes. Those affected are not exhibitionists or nudists. The vestiphobic individual simply wants to be free of clothing.

Xanthophobia – The fear of the colour yellow. Sufferers even fear the word “yellow”.

Zelophobia – The fear of jealousy. The unconscious mind has morbid and irrational thoughts about jealousy.
