The unpleasurable truth behind spontaneous orgasms
PSAS feelings can persist for days, weeks or months, resulting in dozens, even hundreds of unwanted orgasms in a single day. Women who suffer from PSAS say there is no joy in unwanted sexual arousal and they often avoid the things that can trigger the next orgasm. Planes, cars, phone vibrations, visual arousal, the slightest pressure against the genitals and even going to the toilet can trigger it. The feelings range from tingling and throbbing to a full outburst. The result is stress and anxiety, which, ironically can also trigger orgasms and create a vicious circle. There is no known cause or cure. On the other end of the spectrum there are women who can think themselves into orgasm, at their own will.
In 1966 an orgasm was defined as a series of involuntary muscular contractions, focused in the genitals, which produce a feeling of intense pleasure that may spread throughout your entire body. Most recently, however, research on images of women’s brains during orgasm has freed the phenomenon of its genital confines. The duration and intensity of an orgasm also differs from woman to woman. There are different types of female orgasms – clitoral, vaginal or blended. Most women attain orgasm by having their clitoris stimulated, while others reach a deep, intense orgasm involving their uterus and reproductive system. A combination of the two is known as a blended orgasm – where the clitoris and the vagina are both stimulated.
Since your brain is your biggest sex organ, one can experience many types of “hands off” orgasms, also known as extra-genital orgasms. Another type of orgasm is the simultaneous orgasm. This is when couples reach climax at the same time. The experience is often accidental. Then there is also the nocturnal orgasm, or a “wet dream”. While you are sleeping your brain gets so turned on that your body goes through a sexual response cycle to the point of orgasm. And lastly, there are multiple orgasms; this is when a woman experiences a series of orgasms in a small time frame, if she is continuously stimulated after reaching climax. Multiple orgasms occur during intercourse, or during clitoral stimulation, even masturbation.
Besides the involuntary orgasms, or PSAS, orgasms should be an amazing sensation. They can be triggered by both genital and non-genital stimulation, including fantasies. PSAS is unfortunately not a pleasurable experience, but other orgasms offer a mind-body experience that may always have something new and exciting to offer.
